This tour will introduce to hiking experience of the two mountains that are in Kahuzi-Biega national park that is Mt Kahuzi and Mt Biega hence the name of the park originates. These will be two hikes and each takes about 3 to 4 hours with attractions like the primates, bird species, butterflies, plant species and many more others. This tour will give you a high chance of spotting the lowland gorillas since they are located in this park. Most tourists know this park for gorilla trekking but taking part in this great hike adventure will create everlasting memories. Enjoy the beautiful scenery at the summit including the surrounding villages.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Head to Kahuzi-Biega national park from Kigali
Be welcomed by an expert tour guide who will take you through a briefing about this short tour. You will begin the journey to Kahuzi-Biega national park which is located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This park occupies two great mountains that is Mt Kahuzi and Mt Biega home of the rare eastern lowland gorillas. The journey to this park takes about 7 hours’ drive but rewarding as you cross the Cyagungu border. Arrive late evening and be served with dinner ordered.
Day 2: Hike Mount Kahuzi and Biega
Wake up and have a heavy day where you will hike two great mountains which are inactive. Each hike will take about 4 hours but has stunning views. Mt Kahuzi stands at an elevation of 3308m above sea level and Mt Biega stands at 2790m. During the hikes, spot some primates like varvet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and many more not forgetting the unique bird species. There will be a morning hike and an afternoon hike but both are rewarding.
Day 3: Head back to Kigali and fly home
Transfer back to Kigali using the Cyagungu border and on arrival in the afternoon, you will encounter a hot lunch at the hotel and then depart to the airport for your flight back home and this marks the end of the tour.
